Our SUGAR COOKIE GALA Is Dec 12th!!!

You don’t want to miss this year’s 6th Annual Sugar Cookie Gala

SPONSORED BY DALLAS CHILDREN’S THEATER
Monday, December 12th 7:00-9:30 pm
Rosewood Center for the Arts  Dallas, TX

This year, our silent auction will feature unique Paper Snowflakes signed by some of the stars and Muppeteers of Sesame Street, tickets to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and stained glass art created by April Beiswenger. Dallas-based band The Quid will perform with special guests including Janelle Lutz and Ashley Puckett Gonzales throughout the evening.

As always, our gala will offer family-friendly activities such as sugar cookie decorating, lots of great food, and a visit from Christmas carolers.

Sponsored by the Dallas Children’s Theater, this fun, family-friendly evening raises funds to support the organization’s primary mission: providing financial assistance for performing artists in times of unforeseen crisis. Gideon’s Feet primarily works with artists in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, with expanded outreach to New York and Los Angeles based professionals as well.

“What a joy to kick off the holidays in DFW at the Sugar Cookie Gala. We are so excited to have been able to serve artists for the last six years, and we look forward to reaching more people as we continue to grow. The 2010 Gala was our organization’s inaugural event and this year, as in the first year, it’s on my birthday! I cannot think of a better way to celebrate than with the Gideon’s Feet family, sugar cookies, good music, and generous people helping others.” says Ashley Puckett Gonzales, Founder of Gideon’s Feet.

Individual tickets will be available online soon for a minimum requested donation of $15, or $20 at the door. Cash, check, and credit cards are accepted at the event for Admission, Silent Auction winnings, and Individual Donations.

If you cannot attend on December 12th, you can still participate. Donate to Gideon’s Feet, it’s tax-deductible!

Meet the Team part 3

MARIANNE GALLOWAY (Actor/Director/Mom)

How did the arts drew you in?
They’ve always been part of my life.

Why you believe in what we do and why you help do it?
A life in the performing arts can inherently be very self-focused. When we take proactive steps to expand our scope beyond the Self and take in the personal, off-stage lives of our fellow artists, we engage with our community on a deeper, more profound level. I believe this engagement strengthens the core of an arts community, and that core strength emits a ripple effect the limits of which are boundless.

What inspires you?
Those who push beyond their perceived limitations. Those who help me see Life and Humanity through a different perspective than my own narrow one. My children.

What you do in the organization?
Board Member and Annual Chair of the Sugar Cookie Gala Silent Auction

**MEET THE TEAM** A look into the people who make Gideon’s Feet happen.

Tripp Hanson (Acupuncturist)

What draws you to the arts?
It’s no longer my day job, though it was for 25 years…but still treat many of the Broadway community, and feel that- like my original connection- it’s still my tribe. I’m just a medicine man now, instead of being one of the warriors!

Why you believe in what we do and why you help do it: having been an performer/artist,
I know how long and winding the road can be; and how so often the personal resources are limited. I also lived through the the darkest days of the AIDS crisis, when so many were lost, and there were so many who didn’t have access to the basics to meet their very dire needs. While it’s a different time now, that period of loss and shock taught me, taught us, a lot about taking care of each other in a grass roots kind of way. That stays with me….

What inspires you?
Big question. At the root of it all, I guess I’d say connection. Connection to purpose, connection to others, especially when that can be in a collaborative way. I’d add to that education…helping people understand the deeper causes of illness, and how to be involved in their own healing.”

Lisa Riegel (Actor)
Board Member and help with Marketing for Gideon’s Feet.

What drew you to a profession in the arts?
My 3rd grade class went on a field trip to see a production of “Robin Hood” and I was hooked

Why you believe in what we do and why you help do it?
I believe we have a responsibility to each other as members of the theatrical community (and the human community, for that matter) to reach out with caring, open hearts and material resources when needed.

What inspires you?
I find inspiration in anything that expands my focus outward, away from “me” toward “we”.

Coming soon will be information about our volunteers, our recipients, and fun ways for you guys to participate in our mission both on line and in person. We are excited to have great stuff going in DFW and in NYC and look forward to some “bi-coastal” (HEY…the gulf is a coast) events as well.
